First post and Johnny's Peking Tokyo go go!

Welcome everyone to my first little blog ever! I'm by no means a professional, (well maybe at eating..) but I really wanted to document my ever-growing interest in fooding, cooking, fashion and so much more! I hope you enjoy snark, smart-assery, and downright awesome food pics, because I will do my best to DELIVER! That being said, let's dive right into a place I've just become acquainted with.

Johnny's Peking Tokyo sushi bar is a little gem of a place stuck in a perfectly crappy Mystic strip mall. This place was highly recommended by B, (one of my bff's) and I knew the moment she mentioned that the owner gets fresh seafood daily from local fisheries and from N.Y., I had to try it. Being somewhat of a sushi snob, I was really excited to finally find some great sushi in this area.

Enough of this jib-jab. Bring on the FOOD!

Johnny Mussels started us off. I usually balk at mussels, but om nom nom they were fantastic. Cooked really well with a glorious glaze-y sauce and topped with masago.

The yuzu tuna stole the show with me. Perfectly crispy outside, tender, citrusy, buttery deliciousness inside. Oh my god, I'm shivering just thinking about it. The greens that adorned the plate had a really spicy bite to them which matched well with the sweetness of the tuna. I want to eat this everyday. I want 100 of these. God, I'm a fatso.

The "green river" roll (bottom) came highly recommended, and trust me.. there's a reason it's so popular. Fresh buttery avocado is wrapped around spicy tuna and crab, with tempura crumbs for a bit of crunch. Masago and ponzu sauce finish the top, along with a hot red chili sauce. No seaweed, no rice. It absolutely melts in your mouth. Dear god if sex was sushi-fied, this is IT. Trust me.

Aren't these artful? This is the "angel roll", which B ordered. It's spicy yellow tail topped with fluke and tobiko. The best part is dipping it in their special spicy house sauce. I had one and it was great. I stole a few more pieces since yellow tail is my absolute favorite.

Ok this one I was worried about, since it seemed like too much going on in one roll, but it was pretty freaking awesome. This is the "dancing scallop" which B's friend ordered. This is spicy crab and live scallop (sorry little guys!) wrapped up and topped with spicy tuna and more crab, tobiko, and that heavenly chef's sauce that I want to bathe in. I wonder if they sell it by the gallon.....

We had some other things not shown, some hamachi and saba sashimi, and some wickedly great seafood special hand rolls. They even had a funky banana tempura dessert that wasn't bad! All in all it was the best sushi I've had yet in CT, and really satisfied my want for it. Price is a bit high, but I'd expect to pay what I did for what I got. All 3 of us pigged the heck out and it cost about 100 dollars on the bill. That's also including two sodas, a green tea, wonton soup, and various other mish mash.

Definitely go to Johnny's if you're in the Mystic area. I'm already planning when I can go back.
